Bryan Hunter - Senior Minister Bryan Hunter

Bryan is the newest addition to the staff at the Van Church of Christ. He has been in Ministry for 17 years and is a graduate of Oklahoma Christian University, presently working on his Master’s Degree in Theology and Pastoral Counseling through Liberty University.

By being born in Longview and growing up in San Antonio, Bryan can truly claim to be a Native Texan. Bryan, Wendy and their one year old son Jackson moved to Van from Midlothian in February of this year. They are excited about having their roots planted in Van and plan to be an active part of the community for many years to come.

 

Marty Baker - Youth and Family Minister Marty Baker

Marty is the Youth and Family Minister for the Van Church of Christ. He is a 2006 graduate of Lubbock Christian University with a degree in Youth and Family Ministry and is currently working on his Master of Divinity Degree from LCU.

Marty also is a native Texan; born and reared in the Kaufman County area. He has been in Youth and Family Ministry for 6 years. He and his wife, Melissa, began their ministry in Van in May of 2006. They have a great love for teens and an even greater love for God

 

Frances Johnson - Secretary

Frances, a long time resident of Van, has served fourteen years as secretary and over forty years as bookkeeper for the Van Church of Christ. After she graduated from Van High School, Frances studied Business at Tyler Junior College. Upon completing her studies in business, she was hired by the Pure/Unocal Pipe Line Co. where she worked for thirty-four years. Shortly after the local office was closed, Frances accepted the position as church secretary.

 

 
Our Elders:

Jack Perry - (spouse Cordell) Jack Perry

Jack and Cordell Perry are natives of the nearby communities of Grand Saline and Sand Flat. They started worshipping with the Van Church of Christ in 1952. After graduating from Grand Saline High School, Jack and Cordell were married and moved to Sherman, TX. They moved back to Van when he was employed by the Pure Company as a warehouse clerk. His employment with the Pure Oil Company, later the Union Oil Company, took him to Houston, El Campo then back to Van where he worked as manager of the Van office until his retirement in 1986.

The Perry’s enjoyed raising three daughters who were active in the Van ISD. Cordell kept busy at home sewing for the public and baking and selling cakes and pies. For seventeen years, Cordell owned “The Smart Shop” in Van where she made many friends in the community.

Jack has been active in many community organizations and enjoys hobbies such as golf, fishing and hunting. During the time Jack has worshipped with the Van church he has served as a teacher, song leader and deacon. He has served the church as an elder since 1996.

Dwayne Wheeler - (spouse Cathy) Dwayne Wheeler

Dwayne holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Abilene Christian University and is also a graduate of the Preston Road School of Preaching. He and his wife, Cathy, have three married children, two sons and one daughter. The Wheelers have been active members of Van Church of Christ since 1977.

Dwayne has served the church as a minister, deacon, elder, song leader and Bible class teacher. Dwayne has a successful insurance agency in the community, is a member of Van Kiwanis and a member and past president of the Van Chamber of Commerce. His hobbies include reading, walking, gardening and singing. Cathy teaches in the public school and is a Bible class teacher as well.

Brother Wheeler appreciates the heritage of the Van Church of Christ, and is enjoying the exciting growth of the present and he looks forward to a bright future for the Van church.

Stan Brown - (spouse Lisa) Stan Brown

Stan and his wife Lisa moved to the area 20 years ago after beginning their marriage in Grand Prarie where Stan was a fire fighter. His nature of self sacrifice was shown by that first love of saving people and has been a theme of his eldership.

As an insurance agent and singer in a barbershop quartet, Stan shows his love for people and a zest for life.
